![]() Beyond that, I'd recommend cutting one Island for one more UW land to get up to 12. An easy cut is Academy Ruins for any UW land (Glacial Fortress, Flooded Strand, Prairie Stream, Temple of Enlightenment). You can even do 11, but that's skimping a bit and I'd recommend adding the fourth Serum Visions if you do that. Each Serum counts as about 0.4 white sources, so you can get away with about 12 white sources. However, you get to cheat on that 13 a little bit because of your Serum Visions. According to Frank Karsten's article, you want about 13 white sources to consistently cast Stony Silence on turn 2. It looks like you have 10 white sources (2 Flooded Strand, 2 Glacial Fortress, 2 Hallowed Fountain, 2 Plains, 2 Prairie Stream). However, Rest in Peace is a much more powerful effect, so it's up to you if you think that trade-off is worth it. I'm not entirely sure if Rest in Peace is better than something like Surgical Extraction in this deck because decks like Dredge will already bring in cards like Assassin's Trophy against us post-board, so having something like Surgical Extraction is much more difficult for them to interact with. Nexus of Fate still shuffles back into your library while a Rest in Peace is out. White has one of the most powerful pieces of hate in Rest in Peace, though you need to be aware of its negative interaction with Search for Azcanta and Elixir of Immortality. Your sideboard doesn't have any graveyard hate, which is currently somewhat important with decks like Dredge and KCI on the loose. I'm not a fan of Leyline of Sanctity, but the fact that you can hardcast makes it much more appealing than in any other splash. I'm curious about your reasons for including them? I also don't think that Elixir or Lab Man are that powerful, and in my experience, Nexus of Fate is mostly worse than Temporal Mastery. It's weird to see Elixir of Immortality, Laboratory Maniac, and Nexus of Fate all in the same list, since they seem to compete with one another. The cost of each non-blue land is very high given the 4x Gigadrowse in your list, as it will be much more realistic that your Gigadrowsing for one fewer copy will hurt you than it is that you can set up a situation where getting back an Elixir or Howling Mine will help you. The only things it hits are Elixir of Immortality and Howling Mine, and that's not good enough to justify its inclusion. I agree with /u/Spigushe that Academy Ruins doesn't belong here. I loved hearing your thoughts about the strenghts/weaknesses of different variations!įor posterity, here's a formatted decklist: 1 Academy Ruins I also have another question: has Mission Briefing affected positively the deck consistency? Also thought about adding the new Teferi, Jace TMS and more interactions like Remands or Snaps when I can afford them. What I wanted was to have a UW control "core" with turns elements. Also removed 1x Radiant Fountain and added 1x Plains.Ībout the used colours, I read that you could have the "pure turns" strategy, or exchanging some of them for fogs. When Nexus of Fate came out, I added one to the deck, removing 1x Part the Waterveil, as it gave more consistency and can't be touched by threats like Surgical Extraction. Hi u/Spigushe, first of all, thanks for the formatting tip!Ībout the deck strategy, when I first started investing into modern I liked this arquetype and built a budget version of the deck, being its win-cons hitting with Elementals from Part the Waterveil, or decking yourself and finding Lab-Maniac. Have fun playing Turns whilst your opponent doesn't get any :) It is quite different from your but I think we can both benefit from some talk : When I tried this splash I definitely couldn't choose between Path to Exile and Porphyry Nodes to have some removals.I ended up with Nodes instead of Paths. I'm really not a fan of loosing strategies. Indeed, it requires you to get through your deck at least once to find the pieces of the combo and then win bit if the Maniac get a spot removal at this precise moment, you loose. Then, What is the use of Acadmy Ruins ? It does not sound right imo.I think your self-mill plan is not as competitive as you may think. First of all, to have a nice and readable decklist, you should add one more line between each card :)
